What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is an interlibrary loan request and document delivery system used by the Dupré Library Interlibrary Loan Department.

Use your ILLiad Account to:

  • Request articles, books, and other materials not available through Dupré Library's print or electronic collections
  • View the status and history of your requests
  • Access documents received electronically
  • Search your requests
  • Update your account profile and preferences

As a resource-sharing management software that models the interlibrary loan process, ILLiad saves you time by managing the library's borrowing, lending, and document delivery through a single interface.

ILLiad is an acronym for InterLibrary Loan Internet Accessible Database.

Developed in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Department at Virginia Tech, it is the only ILL product created from an ILL staff review of the entire ILL operation. The result is a product that encompasses every action in the ILL process, producing a highly efficient and effective work environment. This environment enhances customer service while significantly reducing costs and staff workload.

ILLiad was developed by Atlas Systems and is now distributed exclusively through OCLC.

For more information, visit Atlas Systems.

How is ILLiad different than other Interlibrary Loan systems?

You might find ILLiad easier to use than traditional paper and other interlibrary loan systems to submit and receive requests.

  • You enter your contact information into the system only once at the time of your first request.
  • Your request is handled more rapidly and accurately as problems relating to misinterpretation of hand-written requests are eliminated.
  • You can get many of your articles more quickly through electronic delivery.
  • You can get the status of your request at any time from any location.

Dupré Library ILL staff can serve you better because all information about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database so we can respond quickly to your inquiries. We can also gather statistical data about the performance of the libraries that lend to us, enabling us to make better decisions when choosing a lender to supply an item.

Why do I need a username and password to use ILLiad?

Your username and password allow us to give you secure access to information about your current and past interlibrary loan requests. You can also edit your information, such as your address or phone number.

Your username and password can be anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practices and choose a strong password different from those you use to access other systems. ILLiad stores passwords in an encrypted file. No one but you will know your password, not even the Dupré Library staff.

First time users need to register for an ILLiad account. Your ULID and password will not work.

What if I forget my password?

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it using Forgot Password? or by contacting the Interlibrary Loan Department at (337) 482-6036.

Dupré Library ILL staff will not be able to tell you your previous password, but they can assist with resetting your password so you can access ILLiad.

If given a temporary password, use Change Password under the User menu to change it after you log in to ILLiad.

Forgot Password?

Why don't I see all my older requests when I look at my request history?

From time to time, we purge older records from ILLiad. The policy is to keep requests online for several years to comply with the record-keeping requirements of the copyright law.

What browser should I use? Are cookies stored?

We recommend the current versions of either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

The ILLiad website uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience. The website sends a 'Session ID' to be stored on your device. You can block this cookie through your browser settings and still be able to use ILLiad without any problems.

Is security a problem if I use a public or shared device?

Browsers cache information and create a history file on the local device. Other users could access ILLiad under your account using the browser's 'Back' button to recall a page from the cache or find a page with your information in the browser's history file.

If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, you can take the following steps:

  • Access ILLiad only from your device or an otherwise secure device.
  • When using a public or shared device:
    • Log out of ILLiad and exit from the browser when done with the device, which prevents the 'Back' button from accessing the pages you were using.
    • Delete those pages from the history file on the local device that contains your information.

Who do I contact if I have problems with or questions about ILLiad?

Contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at (337) 482-6036, ill@louisiana.edu, or Room 157 with any problems or questions about the ILLiad request system or the Interlibrary Loan process.

Where can I find information on Interlibrary Loan services at Dupré Library?

Review the Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Policies & Procedures, which include what can and cannot be borrowed, how to request materials, cost and fines, and turnaround times.

Interlibrary Loan services are available only to the current University of Louisiana at Lafayette faculty, staff, students, distance learning, and retirees who are engaged in research and possess a library circulation account in good standing.
